Types of Roof Tiles
If you are someone who wants to build a house and you are not yet sure about which types of roof tiles you need, you may take some time to read on. There are about five types of roofs namely: slate, metal, cement, concrete and synthetic roof tiles. Slates are abundant in French or Italian style houses. Metal roof tiles are common in bungalows, cottages and contemporary houses. Cement tiles are found in Italian and Mediterranean areas. Synthetic roofs are made from various materials and are processed to look like traditional tiles. Concrete roof tiles are found in most houses nowadays.
Of these types, only metal roofs are not fire resistant. They are made from steel, tin, aluminum or copper, that’s why they can burn easily. They aren’t also very protective against storms. However, they are easy to install, lightweight, and can be made to look like slates. Synthetic roof tiles are lightweight too, and easy to install. Both of these roofs need constant inspection and repainting to prevent them from being worn out. The other types of roof tiles are heavier and more expensive, but they last longer and require low maintenance.
